POP E-mail
POP (Post Office Protocol) email is the most common form of email. In
our context here, POP email addresses will refer to email that is sent to your
web site's domain name. (For example, if your domain name is abc.com, then
your POP email addresses would be you@abc.com, him@abc.com, her@abc.com, etc.)
These email accounts can (and usually do) have individual login IDs and
passwords.
Comments:
POP E-mail has both advantages and disadvantages when compared with free
email services offered by companies like Yahoo! and MSN HotMail. Unlike
these free services, your email is not stored on a public web server where it
faces potential security risks. However, it also means that you will
usually have to use an email program like MS Outlook [Express] or Lotus Notes to
access your email.
POP E-mail Advantages
- Usually no restrictions on the size of your email attachments either
coming in or going out.
- Larger capacity email account (Allows you to keep more of your saved email
messages.)
- Greater degree of privacy from advertisers and SPAM.
NOTES:
- Some free email services will allow you to setup your free account to
access your POP email accounts also.
